A Day in the Life of Mathair Fiona

Winding Road
So I ran across Kerry’s “A Day in the Life” link up over at Winding Road and thought it sounded like fun.  It is also such a great premise.  This blogging world brings us all together and we begin to form real relationships, but we really don’t know what the day-to-days are like for each of us.  Although most of us are writing from a parenting perspective, just how we live the parenting life is SO different from one another.  I don’t have the time right now to post for each day of the week, so I am going to do an abridged version that gives a general overview of what a day looks like in our household.  I just survived a morning of doctor’s appointments in preparation for the big hand surgery day, so I’m feeling like sharing with everyone what its like around here! I Need a Fix: A True Confession of an Organization Junkie

Borrowed from diyhshp.blogspot.com

I have a not-so-secret love affair with the Simple Mom blog.  I love reading everything on her blog about slowing down and really being in the moment, and, of course, everything to do with organization.  Her site is dedicated to living simply, and I love that.  My family has not actively decided that “simple living” is something we strive for, its just kind of the way we are.  Both my husband and I grew-up rurally so we tend to have a different outlook on life than some of our more sub-urban/urban counterparts.  It also helps that we have to live on a budget so its pretty impossible for us to become overly driven by consumption and the proverbial need to “keep up with the Jones’.”  However, we are not idyllic farm-folk who need nothing more than to look out over our rows of corn to know true happiness.  We need reminding of the important things once in a while, and, for me, I can get that reminder through the wonderful pieces of writing found on Simple Mom. Project Simplify – Weeks 2 & 3: That Pesky Closet and Piles

I’m back and I’ve been going nuts on my house trying to downsize in preparation for baby #2.  Needless to say, my Project Simplify has taken on a life of its own.  I thought that I would stay on-track with this, but I needed almost a week to recover from my cross-country vacation to see family.  Traveling while 5 months pregnant with a toddler is A LOT more exhausting than I thought it would be.  I don’t think I’ve ever been so tired in my life.  Now, I am home and grounded for probably about the next year and a half or so.  I digress… Continue reading

Project Simplify – Week 1: Drawers and Shelves

I got a jump start on Project Simplify because I’ll be on vacation most of the actual first week (Week of April 9).  Once I got started, I did not want to stop.  I was chucking things and filling up a donation bag like crazy.  However, since we are pretty good at not accumulating “stuff” I eventually ran out.  I cleaned out 6 drawers and 5 shelves.  I got rid of 5 left-handed rubber gloves and an entire drawer full of expired sunblock.  Yikes. Project Simplify…I Know You Wanna!

Project Simplify on Simple Mom

Fair warning: this is about to get SUPER mom-y.  I am going to talk about spring cleaning and even provide details of some of the nastier aspects of my home.  You’ve been warned.

I’ve been following Simple Mom on Facebook now for a while, and I occasionally read the blog posts, but today I got incredibly excited about Simple Mom’s “Project Simplify.”  I’m not sure why I am so pumped about it, but I am going to tell my lucky readers ALL about it. Continue reading
