#getoutofmyuterus

If you follow me on Twitter, you know that I used #getoutofmyuterus quite a lot near the end of my pregnancy, and we finally had little baby Owen on August 20th at 10:45 a.m.  I just missed my birth center birth by hours, but I still had a beautiful intervention-free birth at the hospital.  This experience was so much better and more relaxed than my first birth.  For more on that craziness, see my post “So You Want a Natural Birth? Get In Line!”  I was so stressed that I was going to have to be induced again, but at about 5 a.m. on the 20th, I woke up having obvious labor contractions and it was game on!  We drove to the hospital, met our midwife and settled in to labor until Owen made a beautiful entrance into this world.  No induction, no IV lock, intermittent monitoring, no hemorrhage, no vacuum, nothing.  It was me, my husband, the midwife, a RN, and a midwifery student.  Nice and quiet.  We went home that evening.  Although I did not get to be at the birth center, this was as wonderful an experience as I could have asked for.  I was able to do what my body needed me to do and felt great afterward.  When we got home that night I had a delicious home-brewed stout made by my father-in-law, just for me 🙂  Here are some photos!

Now I am currently laid up with a strained back.  I was doing really well, until yesterday.  Now I am in terrible pain and can not do much more than lay in my chair with a heating pad.  I tried to jump back into life a little too quickly.  I felt really great and didn’t take it easy enough.  Now I have to take it easy even if I don’t want to.  The lessons we must learn the hard way.  Ugh.  It’s a good thing I’ve got some amazing family and friends to help take care of us while I heal up.

I don’t know what my posting schedule is going to look like here in the near future, but I have a few topics that I will be getting to, and thought I’d share them with you all:

  • Postcard Exchange (I still have some people that I haven’t featured yet!)
  • Awards (I received a few and need to get some posts out and spread the love)
  • My thoughts/plans for doing preschool at home
  • Household management (this will be a follow up to “I Need a Fix: A True Confession of an Organization Junkie”)

I hope this satisfies all who were wondering what was going on over here on my side of the mountain!

  1. Congratulations on one of the most beatiful newborns I’ve seen 😉 I’m very impressed at you posting with such beautifully written words sans grammar errors and misspellings when you must be sleep deprived! Much love to you and your new addition. Xo

    • Thanks very much. You are so sweet 🙂 I am, indeed, quite sleep deprived. This little guy isn’t quite as inclined to a regular nighttime routine as my first. We seem to be making some progress though! A week later…haha
